October 2nd, 2004 Berlin, Germany

Today, I went to Berlin, Germany.. by myself. We were offered to continue picking grapes for a few more days with free accomodation. Sean and Sara wanted to do this to save some money; I felt it was a waste of my vacation time and I would rather see more of Europe instead. So, I went to Berlin. We are going to meet up at the end of their work period, either in Berlin or Prague.

I'm staying in a hostel with ten beds. One of the other people staying in my room, this 18-year-old named Matthew, is also from Canada. I asked him to join me for a drink in the hostel bar. After a few beers and a few tequila shots (his first ever) we decided to venture out into the Berlin bar scene. He is into metal, so the first place we stopped into was a small metal bar. There, I made friends with the waitress (the girl in the first picture), and talked forever with this really cute girl from Berlin (the girl in the second and third picture). The rabbit ears over my head are from the hand of her boyfriend though, fairly enough.

The cute girl with a boyfriend insisted I go to this other club, since "You need to find girls and I have a boyfriend." She was right. So we headed over to this late night metal/goth dance club. Wow. Germans take this stuff very seriously. I remember watching like two guys and three girls on the dance floor head banging. The weren't dancing except to throw their long 80s metal hair around and around in circles. I thought for sure I had accidently traveled to 1988 New York. There were three floors, one for goth, another for metal, another for..something else. I couldn't really find my place no matter how much I changed floors. I tried dancing amongst them but somehow I think I must've just looked stupid..to them. It was hard to take it all seriously. I couldn't help but laugh at the whole situation.
