October 3rd, 2004 Berlin, Germany

Today, I tried to go out and see the museums. Unfortunately, since last night went so late, I didn't get out of the hostel until around 4pm. The museums all closed at 6pm so I knew I would only be seeing a short sample of them. At least it was something to do.

I got lost trying to find them and accidently stumbled across a festival celebrating Germany Unification Day. It wasn't an amazing celebration, like a sort of promenade with a ferris wheel and tents selling beer and souvenirs. Afterwards, since I had hardly any time left for the museums, I just sat in this big park in Berlin for a while, then explored a little bit more before heading home.

That night, I hung out with a German student named Leonard. We went out for a beer and talked about the many differences between North America, Europe and the rest of the world. I was amazed how good his English was considering he had only learnt it in school. He understood every word I said and had no trouble coming up with words to express himself.
