On one side were the most amazing mountains, and on the other was the ocean crashing into the mountain side. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures of any of this.
Port Bou itself was quite beautiful as well, and my first taste of Spain. From there, we caught a regional train to Barcelona, which took two hours. I got to see the Spanish countryside and small towns, which was pretty cool.
We went out for lunch when we got into Barcelona. In Spain, lunch is the main course of the day, eaten around 2pm. After lunch, it's custom to go for a ciesta, an afternoon nap. All the stores close down from 2 until 4. Then, they eat a small supper at around 8pm.
We did just this. The lunch was amazing. For 6.90 euros (around $12) we got a "menu", basically a lunch combo. It came with salad, a main course (I had something like stu and fries that was so good), a drink, and a desert (I had cheesecake).
After the nap, we went out an explored Barcelona. The city consists of small blocks of buildings with tiny one-way streets barely wider than a car, and full of people. Cars rarely go down these side streets, and even then it's mostly motorcycles, garbage trucks and police. The main street is La Ramos, a street with a giant sidewalk in the center full of tourists, entrepreneurs and entertainers.
For dinner, me and Sean ate a falafel and Sara got some McDonalds. We bought some cheap wine and played a drinking game on the street, which is completely legal apparently.
Afterwards, at 2am, we went to this dance club where we met some Americans and Italians. At one point we were sitting around with a French guy and his Spanish girlfriend. Somehow we all talked in our four different languages. I had no problem talking to the French guy somehow, and we used the little Spanish we knew to talk to the Italian guys barely (it's kinda the same language). We stayed at the club until 5:30am when it started to get empty.
