Today we flew to Cairo. We nearly missed the plane but caught it just in time. We ended up sitting on the plane right near Australian friends of ours from the hostel in Greece. When we landed in Cairo, we wrote down their hotel and planned to meet them tomorrow to hang out together.
As soon as we got to the airport, we realised that this was a different country with a different culture. First, some miscelaneous guy got our bags for us and then asked us for a Euro, even though we really didn't need his help. Next, this guy told us he worked for the airport and he would help us find a hotel and everything. We trusted him, and he did find us a hotel, but we suspect it wasn't the best deal whatsoever. They also got us a personal driver, Magdi, to drive us home from the airport. On the way home, Magdi suggested that we go out for dinner and a show. We decided we might as well, since we felt rather lost and thought it might be fun.
Magdi drove us to the dinner, which was on a boat on the nile, and sat with us for the whole dinner and show. It was a good buffet, but none of the food was particularly unusual, just rice and potatoes and chicken and beef and salads.
The show was absolutely incredible though. There was a belly dancer and two other guys dancing with her. She was really good and really fun. Out of nowhere, she went and got Sean and pulled him up on stage to imitate her dancing. She went around and picked out six other guys to join him, and then did little dancing stunts and challenged them to copy her. One of her tricks was to lean all the way back and touch the back of her head to the table. She wouldn't let Sean go until he could pull it off..and Sean fell to the ground trying. The whole thing was really hilarious.
Next, the two guys came out dressed as a horse. She pulled the horse around and got girls to kiss him. After getting Sara to kiss the horse, she pulled me up on stage to dance with the horse for some reason. The guy in the horse costume held me really close, it was pretty creepy. The dancer girl had to break it up and the horse didn't want to let go.
The last part of the show was this guy who spun around for twenty minutes non stop! It was unbelievable! His dress stayed hovering in the air the whole time, and he would do different things every few seconds to keep things interesting. It was really amazing, I got dizzy watching him in about two minutes, yet he just kept persuing. And when it was all finished, he didn't even seem dizzy! I don't know how he did it.
